Bio

Jeff brings over 30 years of athletic training experience to school athletic programs. He served as head athletic trainer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for 30 years (1994-2024) and as Director of Sports Medicine at SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery and Spine Center and Crestwood Medical Center, where he directly supervised athletic trainers working at 8 different high schools. In addition to his extensive hands-on experience, Jeff served as an adjunct professor teaching Sports Medicine, First Aid & CPR, Sports Nutrition, and other related subjects. He worked with the UAB Medical School Family Practice Residency Program helping train residents and fellows in primary care sports medicine.

Most video consultations with our athletic trainers are scheduled within 4-6 hours of your request. We offer evening and weekend availability because we know injuries don’t happen on a 9-5 schedule. In urgent cases, we prioritize getting athletes assessed as quickly as possible.

If our athletic trainers and orthopedic specialists determine your athlete needs
in-person evaluation or treatment, we’ll provide a referral to one of our partner orthopedic practices. We help coordinate that appointment and ensure the specialist has all the information from our assessment. We can also provide follow-up care coordination after they’ve seen the specialist.

While our primary focus is injury assessment and recovery management, our athletic
trainers can also provide guidance on injury prevention, conditioning, and safe training
practices. If you have questions about keeping your athlete healthy and preventing injuries,
we’re here to help.

We work with athletes in all sports—football, basketball, soccer, wrestling, swimming,
track and field, volleyball, baseball, softball, and more. Our athletic trainers have experience with a wide range of sports and understand the unique demands and injury patterns of each.

Absolutely. Sideline Ortho is fully HIPAA compliant. All video consultations,
communications, and medical records are protected with secure, encrypted technology. Your athlete’s health information is kept private and confidential, and we never share it without your explicit consent.

We’re currently in our pilot phase with select schools in North Alabama. Direct-to-consumer access for families is launching soon. Join our waitlist to be among the first

During the video consultation, our athletic trainer will ask about how the injury
occurred, conduct a visual assessment, and may ask your athlete to perform certain movements to evaluate the injury. The session typically lasts 5-20 minutes. Afterward, you’ll receive a written summary with the assessment findings, recovery recommendations, and any necessary next steps.

Yes! We coordinate with your athlete’s school and coaching staff to ensure everyone is
informed about the injury, recovery plan, and return-to-play timeline. This ensures your athlete gets consistent guidance from all the adults involved in their sports participation.
